THE CASE Digital customer onboarding in the healthcare sector

The WellApp is a health app for everyone in Switzerland. Well has around 40 employees and was founded at the end of 2020. The app offers a symptom checker, chat with doctors, telemedical advice and medication delivery. PXL Vision supports Well with identity verification and ensures simple onboarding processes.

    About Well

Having symptoms checked, talking to the doctor via video, creating prescriptions and having medication delivered to your home - the Well health platform offers all this and more in an app in Switzerland. Well thus connects many useful players in one healthcare platform: doctors, pharmacies, insurers and insured persons. Patients receive quick, uncomplicated and digital answers to questions about their health and can contact medical staff directly.

Telemedicine services are already more widespread in Switzerland than in Germany. This is mainly due to the insurance models there: More and more insurance companies are offering more cost-effective insurance policies that require customers to first take advantage of a telemedicine consultation before they can consolidate a local doctor. An estimated 30 percent of all insurance models in Switzerland already require telemedical treatment, and the trend is rising.

Medical data is highly sensitive, as it not only provides insight into personal details such as date and place of birth, but also into personal constitution. Anyone who wants to use all the functions of the WellApp, from medical records and telemedicine to prescriptions, naturally wants their data to be protected. In order to exchange documents such as the results of a laboratory test with the doctor, an identification procedure is mandatory: it must be ensured that the person receiving the sensitive data is actually the person specified. Well relies on the expertise of Swiss market leader PXL Vision to enable digital and uncomplicated identity verification.

    The solution

In order to make full use of all the functions of the Well app, users have to identify themselves. The solution from PXL Vision was implemented in the app for this purpose.

The ID process is short: first you take a photo of the front of the ID card, then a short selfie video. The AI checks whether it is a valid ID document and checks whether the face matches the photo on the ID document. It also recognises whether it is really a real person in front of the camera. It also scans the relevant data on the ID document, such as gender and date of birth, and compares it with the data entered in the form. Once they have been identified, users can exchange sensitive data and documents with the doctors treating them. This includes, for example, sending the results of the symptom checker to the doctor or receiving laboratory results.

PXL Vision has been seamlessly integrated into the Well app as a white label, allowing Well customers to benefit from an uncomplicated identification process.
